Teen Uses Sword to Capture Prison Escapee
14-year-old hears a noise in the basement, so he grabs a sword and goes to check it out. Really, who hasn’t this happened to? The sword belongs to his brother, a soldier at Fort Riley, KS.
UPDATE: John Lott says that 99 percent of the time, merely brandishing your sword will cause an intruder to wet his pants and run away like a little bunny.
Problem is, the second time you brandish your sword at an intruder, the odds of getting a bullet in your skull are significantly higher.
Burgulars remember which houses had armed defenders, and they tend to share this information with their buddies at the bar. Scare a burgular away once, and you may not have trouble with burgulars for a while after that, but any that do come will be ready for whatever stunt you used.
its really funny $)
That was a good zigger there Mac. We all know burglars communicate between each other, not. Most burglaries are crimes of opportunity, a thief sees something like an open window or open garage door and helps themselves. Burglars also like to find out who is and who isn’t out of town. When you go out of town tell only those you trust about your plans. So guns, as real research has proven, are ineffective against crime in the home.
um…good zinger

Actually, most burgularies are *not* crimes of opportunity. Home invasion is still too risky to be taken casually, even if there is an open window or garage door. Most burgularies are planned ahead of time (though seldom very carefully) and usually involve someone who has lived or worked in the building burgled.
