Was the world really crying out for another remake of The War of the Worlds? No doubt in this one, no pansy germs are going to play any role in the plot. Instead, Cruise will be shrunk down to the size of a germ (cutting his height nearly in half) and individually kill each BEM from the inside.
This will probably suck, too

CNN.com – Drone may have spotted bin Laden in 2000 – Mar 17, 2004
The CIA will investigate who leaked the tape to the media. This is in concordance with standard government procedures in such situations. What’s important is finding the leaker, not the guy responsible for letting Osama get away. You have to have a sense of priorities.

A Favor to mac on his Birthday–My apology for Rudeness
March 17, 2004 · 2 Comments
Dear Readers of Warliberal,
I want to apologize for being a big, fat meany sometimes.
Yes, people telling me not to be upset about “The Passion” or telling me how great France is, or why we should leave the poor terrorists alone so they can be free to murder innocent people, makes my proverbial skin crawl, admittedly, but Mac is one of my oldest friends and has requested I be nicer since he doesn’t censor some of my more controversial comments.
So, I am sorry particularly to people like Haggai–though I obviously disagree with you a lot, there are better ways to say it.
So, on Mac’s birthday, I make a pledge that starting Thursday March 18th, any comments I make will not be personal attacks. I am sure we will continue to disagree (at least with many of you), but I like Mac enough to send an open apology letter to everyone on the Blog and play nicer.
I am very sensitive to certain issues and take a lot personally. It’s just my personality, can’t change that, but I am a big Mac fan and when we rip on each other, it’s never that serious because we have known eachother since 1993.
So again, I have been a jerk and I am sorry for being personal & rough in my attacks to everyone. If half of you still can’t stand me after this still, that’s up to you, but it’s fair to say I owed doing this because Mac asked it of me on his birthday.
Alex R.

Frenchman convicted of attempting to run over bin Laden lookalike
“Pierre” was fined $615 (I’d guess 600 Euros?) for attempting to run over a pedestrian he thought was Osama bin Laden. Why Osama would be wandering around Montpellier, France is anyone’s guess, but it’s not like we’ve had any success in finding him. (Unless you’re paranoid and think he’s being saved for an October Surprise.)

The coach of the University of Georgia men’s basketball team is whining about his team having to go to Iowa State to play their first game in the NIT. Hey, Dennis, you’re in the NIT. (And it’s not even like you had much of an NCAA case.) You don’t get to complain. You thank your lucky stars that there’s a tournament for the teams that don’t make the real tournament. If they want to send you to to play in Vladivostok, you say “thanks” and get on the plane.
(And you thought Alex was angry before; he’s going to rip me a new one now.)

ScienceDaily News Release: Fish Oil Supplements May Contain Flame Retardants
In our continuing series, “Odd things you eat when you eat fish”, it turns out that many dietary supplements containing cod liver oil also contain flame retardants (PCBs and PBDEs) which the fish had previously consumed. Seemingly, everything that gets in the environment — from mercury to excreted antidepressants — winds up in fish, then people eat the fish, and then…

I don’t know what to say about the Baghdad hotel bombing. Well… It’s obvious, after Madrid, that “flypaper theory” is seriously flawed; the terrorists aren’t all in Iraq. But there are lots of terrorists there anyway. It’s almost like there’s not a fixed number of them. And maybe, just maybe, that they don’t get their orders from Saddam.

Crazy Hugo and the Little Priest
March 17, 2004 · Leave a Comment
They’ll be a fun couple. Hugo’s only doing this to annoy us, of course. I’m not sure if Aristide will accept this offer. I never gave much credit to his “kidnapping” claims. Why would we forcibly remove him and then immediately give him access to a phone? Even for the Bush Administration, that seems incompetent.

CNN.com – Florida dolphin deaths reach 38, feds investigate – Mar 17, 2004
I knew about this story this weekend but neglected to post until now. The beaches in question are on the Gulf coast of northern Florida. It appears that a red tide (an algal bloom) is responsible for the dolphin deaths, as well as dead redfish and horseshoe crabs. So it’s probably not our fault this time.

CNN.com – Plague of locusts descends on Australia – Mar 17, 2004
Wow, an actual plague of locusts! Typically, the farmers are devastated by the plague, which was caused by heavy rains, after two years of drought. Either there’s too much rain or there’s not enough. Again, this is Biblical.
