2 Arab educators retiring; board to combine positions

Unfortunately, these folks don’t work in a madrassah but in Arab (AL) public schools.

Arab strikes back, edges Hazel Green

It’s wrong of me, but I get really nervous when I read the phrase “Arab strikes back”. It’s about high school baseball.

The Rise of “Eurabia”

March 18, 2004 · 1 Comment

I know Mac et all will be screaming from the left that this is wrong but I choose not to ignore FACTS; the rest of you can for all I care, but read this ANYWAY.

The Rise of Eurabia

As it happens, Alex, I think it’s overwrought and that Front Page is extremist at best and a hate site at worst, but I have an open-door policy. I deleted it and changed to a link because this is probably a copyright violation. Excerpts are okay, but quoting the entire article is illegal.

Suggestions

March 18, 2004 · 8 Comments

My ISP is going to start bandwidth overage charges starting in April. For me, this would mean paying about half again what I have been, either by upgrading my account or in overage fees. And I’m really cheap.

So here are the options if I don’t do that:

1. I can cut the front page down a lot by removing the blogroll to another page, cutting out any internally hosted pictures, and keeping only a couple of days’ posts up front. I don’t know if that will be enough, but I think so. Still, it wouldn’t leave any room for growth.

2. I can move to another host. I am leaning towards this. I know that some people have been frustrated with the comments problems here anyway and maybe that would fix the problems. Anyone have a hosting service to suggest?

The Washington Monthly

1. Is Kevin Drum now officially the King of the Liberal Bloggers? Do we have a meeting on this?

2. Big Kudos to the Washington Monthly for a) Making a blog the centerpiece of their site, and b) Letting Kevin keep his old content and his comments. There are lots of old media companies with blogs now, but I don’t recall any of their political blogs having comments.

Report: Legal Team For Ex-Enron Chief Well Paid

How about instead of spending all your time worrying about contingency fees for civil trial lawyers, you worry — just some, an hour a day, maybe — about the massive shifting of stolen money from financial supercriminals like Jeff Skilling and Richard Scrushy to their criminal lawyers? $23 million for a criminal trial?

CNN.com – Student charged with firebombing SUVs – Mar 17, 2004

William Cottrell is accused of firebombing or vandalizing 125 SUVs in the LA area. He gave responsibility to the Earth Liberation Front, though who knows if he’s really a member. But firebombing is dumb. You know how many toxins are released into the environment when you firebomb an SUV? The obvious strategy is to drain the oil and gas and then dump it into the ocean as an artificial reef.

Any relation to Walt Disney’s brother-in-law William Cottrell? Maybe Eisner is responsible for this as well.

Governor: Will veto some tax proposals

Having failed in his big tax plan, Alabama’s lame-duck-one-year-into-his-first-term governor says that he’ll veto any “broad-based” tax increases. Apparently, he includes in this any taxes that were proposed as part of his plan, saying that the voters had already rejected this. But they rejected the whole plan, not any individual pieces.

As it so happens, the legislature has started ignoring Governor Riley anyway and will pass what it wants. I don’t know that they can override his veto.

Part of Riley’s spending plan, by the way, is to delay a payday by a few days to put it into fiscal 2006 instead of fiscal 2005. This doesn’t actually save any money, but it does allow you to pretend you saved the money for one year. The Federal government does this sort of thing all the time, that’s probably where he got the idea.

Watch ‘Wonderfalls’ Tonight; Repeat of the Premier at 9 pm; start with ‘Tru Calling’ at 8 pm

March 18, 2004 · 1 Comment

Folks, if you are a fan like I am of genre television (among which I watch Angel, Enterprise, The Dead Zone, & Tru Calling), it is some of the most exciting and interesting programming on the air.

Unfortunately, a bunch of guys in suits would rather copycat garbage television like “American Idol” and “The Apprentice”, furthering the evils of reality television on ALL of us while those of us who appreciate, smart, fresh, intelligent scripts continue to get left behind as good genre shows keep potentially going the way of the dinosaurs.

That said, FOX has an excellent 1-2 punch tonight. Start at 8 pm w/ a fresh episode of the fantastically entertaining “Tru Calling” (and it’s sexy star Eliza Dushku, Faith on “Buffy” and “Angel”) & then at 9 pm, if you MISSED the premier last friday, watch again the premier of “Wonderfalls”, one of the smartest news genre shows on Television. It premiered last week to low ratings (The FOX Friday death slot can kill ya) but tell your friends and try this show out; it’s a lot of fun and well written.

And even though Mac is strangely obssesed with the awful, evil, unwatchable “Survivor”, the show that started the most evil trend in Television, Reality TV, (it’s cheap for networks to make, gets high ratings, and is KILLING these great, fun, well written shows like Tru, Wonderfalls, Angel, etc), please listen to me, shut that unwatchable garbage off and stretch your minds for an hour by watching FOX tonight with tru Calling & Wonderfalls from 8-10 PM.

Trust me…you will thank me.
