Apparently Larry Langford has pulled it off, getting a bit more than 50 percent of the votes (apparently you need fifty percent plus 140 votes — don’t ask) and avoiding a runoff. You’d think that if he was just below he’d win the runoff easily, but eight years ago William Bell just missed winning outright, then got spanked by Kincaid (henceforth, Eight Percent Bernie) in the runoff.
AL.com has Crazy Larry at 50.33 percent. That might be close enough for a recount, and considering that second-place Patrick Cooper is a lawyer and spent the last month or so getting personally attacked by most of the field, I wouldn’t be surprised if he asked for one.
Either way, this is going to be fun.
