Councilman proposes advisory board to guide county financial recovery – Breaking News from The Birmingham News – al.com

William Bell has solved all the sewer bond difficulties:

Bell, at a City Hall press conference this morning, said a panel composed of business school deans from the University of Alabama, Auburn University and Miles College would evaluate all proposals from financial institutions and make recommendations to the commission. The process should take no longer than 60 days, he said.

It’s the no longer than 60 days part that lets you know he’s really thought this through. It took him a whole week to come up with this! Also: Auburn has a business school? An agribusiness school, that I can see. Well, the chickens and cows aren’t going to sell themselves. Note that UAB has a business school, and it isn’t being consulted. Yeah, cutting off the county’s largest employer out of pique is a brilliant idea.

I just got an email from the Christian Coalition of Alabama entitled “Wiregrass and Houston counties will be like Las Vegas”. I’m not sure why that would be a problem — I’ve been to that part of the state, and it could only be an improvement — but what really gets me is why the CCA is emailing me, not in my capacity as a blogger (to my public email address) but as a librarian (here at the school). How did I get on this mailing list?

Jefferson County Commission president proposes using excess school-building tax money to pay down sewer debt- al.com

Sure, it seems like a good idea — you have extra money in the school budget, shift it to the sewer budget — but whenever anyone tries it things go bad. John “Horse Track” Rogers has already vowed to block any such measure in the legislature, and he probably can.

They’re paying for your legal representation. I think that’s more than enough. If anyone was ever fired for cause, it was you.
