Gov. Riley appoints member to Lipscomb council- al.com

Riley took out his Jefferson County Commission frustrations by finally appointing someone to fill one of the two seats on the Lipscomb city council. Gardendale even let councilman David Horn out of jail, so they actually had five city councilors!

Reminds me of the time I had to get bailed out of jail to make the ninth player in a winter softball tournament!

  • Ex Lipscomb Officer // April 23, 2008 at 1:02 pm

Lipscomb was a wonderful little town and a great place to work before the election of 1996. It has not been the same since.
You have crooked politicians, non sworn reserve police giving out tickets pre signed by the chief who is not even present when the stop is made. Reserves in patrole cars alone. When it does come up in court the chief lies and says he was in the car during the stop. City Council persons ordering Police to set up road blocks on private property,to patrole and issue citations on the super hiway, out of the jurisdiction and a Chief that is never at work because he is driving his city car all over town working side jobs while he is suppose to be on duty at Lipscomb. It was’nt always like this. This all started when the big black takeover occured. Lipscomb had a white mayor and white council. they were all ousted and replaced by blacks in this election and the place has never recovered.
I am not being racist here I am just stating the facts. I was there when the new Mayor took over. She fired 3 of our officers,we had a total of 6, because she wanted 3 white and 3 black. She told us on many, many occasions “We run things around here now” She droped our whopping 9.00 per hour salary to 6.75 and continued cutting our Blue Cross health insurance from our checks without ever sending it to Blue Cross. We were paying for insurance for 6 months before we found out the bill had not been paid. We were never reimbursed. The 3 black officers she hired had all been previously fired from other departments for misconduct. The Chief there now was fired from Tuscaloosa County Sheriffs office.
