Star explodes halfway across universe - CNN.com
This happened 7.5 million billion light years away, which means that it happened 7.5 million billion years ago. Frankly, I’m not that impressed with their newsgathering.
UPDATE: Nor should anyone be impressed with my typing.

Something is wrong. News report says 7.5 BILLION not 7.5 MILLION as Bob Riley states. If Bob’s #’s are right, the story is mildly interesting. If the CNN newsstory has it right, and the event happened 7.5 BILLION years, ago, now that’s a story.

7.5 Billion with a “B.”

Actually, it was 7.5 BILLION. Which means they were even slower in reporting it than previously thought.

Billion, not million. This explosion predates the Earth.

Hey Mac, I don’t know if you realized this or not, but it’s billion, with a “B”. Figured I ought to tell you before everyone see yours mistake and comments on it.
Is it funny that the post with the most comments on it right now is one where everyone repeats the same comment over and over?

Good old comment approval. They all left messages in the wee hours when I was asleep.
Of course, we all know that the universe was really created in 4004 BC.

And that it travels on the back of a giant turtle — that is, until the god that is dreaming it wakes up.

A billion here, a billion there… pretty soon you’re talking about some real distance there.
