Shelby plays earmark game, and Tuscaloosa benefits | TuscaloosaNews.com
Richard Shelby will ultimately give over $10 million in federal money to build a parking deck in downtown Tuscaloosa. But it’s not just a parking deck!
‘It’s more than just a parking deck. It’s an intermodal facility,’ said Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox.
So, everyone, don’t worry, your tax dollars aren’t being used on a parking deck, but on an intermodal facility.

Does intermodal mean it has a bike rack or reserved space for the Lankford-Hillard Mag/Lev monorail to connect Legion Field to Bryant-Denny Stadium?

Monorail! Monorail!
Seriously, it sounds like it will have a bus stop.
The intermodal facility will provide parking for downtown, including government buildings and the proposed federal courthouse, and will be the hub for the Tuscaloosa Transit Authority, which gets money from the federal government.
So, their point is that since it will provide parking for the federal courthouse and a bus stop for a bus program that gets federal money, it’s okay to spend federal tax dollars building it?

This is the first time I’ve seen the word “intermodal” used outside of a logistics publication or the logistics community itself. Weird.
I had to write a research paper comparing three different types (or modes) of transportation and how they could be successfully integrated into an intermodal operation using three different scenarios. It was mainly used in the context of freight shipping instead of passenger-related issues.
