Democracy! Literacy! Sexy!

August 30, 2008 · 5 Comments

I just want to briefly condemn the description of Sarah Palin as a “sexy librarian” type. I am not disparaging Governor Palin’s attractiveness, nor am I defending the honor of my profession. I am mostly just concerned about the English language, as “sexy librarian” is an obvious redundancy. All librarians are sexy. I, myself, am an almost unspeakable fount of sexual charisma.

Birmingham business group’s study shows BJCC best site for dome – Breaking News from The Birmingham News – al.com

BMLL asked for this independent survey. However, he wanted the Birmingdome to be built at the Race Course, because that land is owned by his good friend and financier Milton McGregor he sincerely, genuinely thinks that’s the best place for it. So I give it six weeks before he says that the study was flawed and someone else will have to do it.

Gay pride advocacy group sues Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford, claiming faith-based bias – al.com

I don’t know that they really have any sort of case — where’s the damage? — but Langford isn’t denying faith-based bias. At all:

“The bottom line is I don’t condone the lifestyle and what they were asking me to do in my official capacity as mayor was to issue a proclamation which in essence endorsed the gay lifestyle,” Langford said. “If I had issued such a proclamation, I would in essence be saying that God’s position is wrong and I wouldn’t dare take a position against God. So as opposed to suing me, they need to be suing God, and the last time I checked, he can defend himself. End of story.”

That is so insane and megalomaniacal that it reminds me of nothing so much as Roy Moore. Who has got to get involved in his role as defender of faith-based bias. A St. Roy/Crazy Larry teamup would make my year.

Melanie Bouyer wins Lipscomb mayor’s race, ousting Mayor Deborah Miller – Breaking News from The Birmingham News – al.com

Bouyer was the lady who Riley appointed to the Lipscomb city council, but who had to resign because she didn’t live in the district. She won election pretty handily. It remains to be seen how long before she’s arrested.

Northport turnout steady despite wet conditions | TuscaloosaNews.com | The Tuscaloosa News | Tuscaloosa, AL

I live in Northport but have no intention of voting. I don’t know what the issues are and frankly all I know is that my water rates will go up, because they always go up. You would think we had Evian on tap. Anyway, this race was mildly interesting because every day, including the last several of rain, I got to drive past the actual mayor of Northport standing around and waving to passing cars. That’s just the kind of thing you don’t get in a big city.

STLtoday – Court briefs debate Mo.’s school Bible case

Apparently, handing out Bibles to public school students in Missouri. I wonder what he’d think if CAIR went around handing out Korans. Well, no, I don’t, because I know what he thinks.
