And that’s a bad thing?

Victory

“I understand war.” — John McCain III, on many occasions.

With all due respect, he doesn’t. Oh, I have no doubt that he understands, far better than I, the reality of fighting a war. (Then again, he’s never commanded troops, or had to kill someone he could see.) But he doesn’t understand why wars are fought, or really what “victory” means. Continue reading

Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby adds millions in domestic spending to war funding bill- al.com

Alabama’s senior senator, the Porkmeister:

“If we’re dealing with terrorists in the world then we’ve got to deal with child predators here,” Shelby said after he persuaded the committee to add $50 million to help track unregistered sex offenders.

Hullabaloo

Everybody’s having fun with this wingnut who wants Bush to nuke Iraq, seize dictatorial power via military coup, and anoint himself President of the World For Life (I am not making any of that up) but here’s my little quibble.

Caesar pacified Gaul by mass slaughter; he then used his successful army to crush all political opposition at home and establish himself as permanent ruler of ancient Rome. This brilliant action not only ended the personal threat to Caesar, but ended the civil chaos that was threatening anarchy in ancient Rome – thus marking the start of the ancient Roman Empire that gave peace and prosperity to the known world.

Um… Does this guy know what happened to Caesar? It’s very famous. Shakespeare wrote a play about it and everything.

Great, now some other wingnut will say that I’m advocating members of the Senate assassinate Bush on his way to the State of the Union Address.

Depressing, but not surprising

Report: Al Qaeda may use Iraq operatives to attack U.S. – CNN.com

There may have been no Iraqi connection to 9-11, but that won’t be true the next time. We’ll probably invade Switzerland in response.
