Silence sought on Jeffco finances-

Just to give a hint as to what the future holds for Birmingham, Jefferson County has a $4.3 billion debt load, including $2 billion in loans with variable interest rates (ask a former homeowner what those are like). From what I hear, this is larger than the debt loads of some states. Though not mentioned in the article, these loans are largely the responsibility of Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford, then Jefferson County Commission President Larry Langford (JCCPLL). Bettye Fine Collins (JCCPBFC) wants the other commissioners (however many there are at the current moment) to shut up about this, because, I guess, if nobody talks about it it will go away. Or something. Shelia Smoot (Smoot!) says she won’t not talk about it.
