Birmingham police wreck two cars during chase but capture suspect – Breaking News from The Birmingham News – al.com
I wish we had some of those TV traffic helicopters like they have in LA, because this would have been fun to watch.
A man, who was involved in an dispute earlier, was returning to the scene of the dispute with a gun when residents flagged down a passing officer, said Mitchell. The officer attempted to stop the man, who sped away in an older model Thunderbird.
Officers from East, North and West precincts eventually joined in the chase, which wound through Woodlawn, Avondale, downtown, and portions of north Birmingham. The chase ended when the fleeing man wrecked his car on Bankhead Highway near Finley Boulevard.
The suspect suffered a minor injury and was taken into custody. He faces numerous charges, Mitchell said.
I’ll say. Plus two wrecked cop cars.
Jefferson County commission delays debt payments – Breaking News from The Birmingham News – al.com
Yeah, that’s not good. You’re going to have to go bankrupt. I have no idea what this means:
“Time is of the essence, and by that I mean strategic planning, what happens today, what happens tomorrow, and the goals and the objectives that go into the planning,” Collins said.
It’s just random words is all.
“Hi! I’m an antisocial asshole who thinks it’s a good idea to take up hammering at 7:30 in the morning! Thanks for listening!”
Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford received interest in property without investing money, later used land for collateral- al.com
Apparently, BMLL has an “interest” in property at the I-459/Alabama 150 interchange in Hoover — pretty good property to have. He somehow got this interest without investing any money, and then used this as collateral for a loan from a lobbyist. I don’t know that this is illegal, but again, I don’t understand the whole situation at all. It sounds shady, and of course we’ve already had a criminalization of ordinary politics in the Siegelman situation, so who knows anymore?

Birmingham city employees to have four-day work week to save money- al.com
Supposedly, the workers are all wild for this new idea which has them working four ten-hour days, adopted to save them gas money. I dunno. After eight hours, I’m usually either trying to stay awake or hallucinating.
Scrushy lawyer Jim Parkman defends black Democrats, says he’d do same for Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford- al.com
Two points in question…
1. Is the Bush Administration targeting black officials (who are almost all Democrats)? Yes. That’s what the Bush Administration does, along with screwing up foreign policy and the economy, continuing unwinnable wars, and general malfeasance.
2. Are many of these officials actually guilty? Yes. They’re politicians! Most politicians are guilty of something.
Kwame Kilpatrick, one of Parkman’s clients, is from all I can tell incredibly guilty. I don’t know if BMLL is guilty, because I can’t make heads or tails of the case, but I think a lot of people would like to see him convicted just on general principles.
