So far — and it is hard to tell what the future may hold for Palin’s unexpected national candidacy — the travails of the Palin family probably seem awfully familiar to many average Americans. It is this averageness that makes her such a politically promising running mate for John McCain — and such a dangerous opponent for Democrats. Many voters will find it easy to identify with her family’s struggles — a significant advantage in an election where the voting calculus is so unusually and intensely personal.

I don’t think there’s much chance Sarah Palin’s going to get withdrawn from nomination. However, if it becomes necessary, what then? As has been pointed out, this would really piss off the
religious nuts social conservative base, and throwing in Lieberman or Romney or Pawlenty at that point won’t help. There’s only one candidate who would, and that’s Huckabee — who I think should have been McCain’s pick all along.

He statistically “proves” that other presidential or vice-presidential candidate daughters have become pregnant, so Sarah Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy is no big deal. (As opposed to no big deal because it’s a private matter, a case I’m somewhat sympathetic to except for Palin’s support for moronic “abstinence education”.) Seriously, why is this man published? Why isn’t he institutionalized?

Apparently, only barbers can vote on who goes on the official barber commission, and a huge number — 92 — showed up to vote, and it was a tie. So they revoted, and the status quo was maintained.
