Yes, this is true — no income tax. That doesn’t take into account withholding taxes for Social Security and Medicare, which are regressive and take a huge cut from most people’s paychecks. Focusing on the income tax is a common right-wing trope that seemingly is trotted out to make you feel sorry for rich people.

    And if you live in Alabama you pay sky high sales taxes on basic necessities. Being poor in Alabama is the bombdiggity!!!

  2. I hate that tactic as well. Really the only effective difference between a payroll tax and an income tax is which row the dollars appear on your paycheck stub. So really the only reason to split these in political discussions is to mislead. It would be nice to live in a world where honest political discussions could take place, instead of games of rhetoric.

    im a little late but….”owe no tax” or “pay no tax”..i pay tax ..throughout the year” but rarely owe any because its already paid
