Woman says she was fired for publicly objecting to on-the-job Scientology teachings- al.com
On the one hand, I can’t stand Scientologists, so I want to believe her. On the other hand, I can’t stand “Rick and Bubba”, and she went on their show to complain about Scientologists, so I don’t want to believe her. Oh, well.

THE MOST IMPORTANT POLTICAL FILM EVER MADE! | Cinematic Titanic
There’s been a lot of politics in the news lately, what with all the politics that’s been going on. You may not know this, but I am quite the political prognosticator. I predicted that John Kerry would win in ’04, and that Dukakis would triumph in ’88, and that Shirley Chisholm would be swept into the White House in 1972. I realize that none of these predictions came true, but I’m hoping that if I’m wrong enough times, I’ll get hired as a cable TV news pundit.

Once, there was a great metropolitan newspaper named the New York Times. It died, of terminal condescension, on May 4, 2008.
WBHM radio station reduces airing of classical music- al.com
I, in fact, happen to know why it took the shutdown of their provider to get UAB’s public radio station to start playing NPR during the workday rather than classical music. Almost everyone has, for years, wanted WBHM to play more NPR. However, they refused to do so, because of a tiny clique of doctors at the medical center. Seriously. When I was an undergrad at UAB, the station director up and told a whole class, including me, that this was the reason. This was in 1990.
Bill Schneider on CNN actually just called McCain “a heroic war hero”. Give me a break.
Bill Clinton’s Birmingham visit set – Breaking News from The Birmingham News – al.com
Former President Bill Clinton will stop in Birmingham Saturday while campaigning for Sen. Hillary Clinton. He will speak at a 12:30 a.m. rally at Miles College’s Knox/Windham Gymnasium. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. The rally is open to the public.
Well, according to this he’s going to get started at thirty minutes after midnight, after the people there have been waiting for thirteen hours. That seems unlikely, but you can never tell with Bill.
Leaving aside the stupidity of the Birmingham News, I don’t know that Miles is really the best place for Bill to visit right now, all things considered.
